On the set of “Lion” with Actor Michael Segal
What is the short film “Lion” about?
You may find it weird, but it is about hope and justice, it’s about a children’s dream, isolation and fear.
What was the experience like for you when taking part in this film?
I’m used to playing every kind of character, but Jeff was a real asshole and forced me to look in the darkest parts of the human being.
How did you get the part?
I liked Davide’s films and sometimes ago I wrote to him, to let him know that I worked in the film industry as an actor and that even if he lives in Spain, I would be available for one of his movie. When the screenplay of “Lion” was ready and he was thinking about a very bad guy to play Jeff, he asked me… ha ha ha ha.
What can you tell us about the character of Jeff?
Jeff is one of that man that I would kill in the real life, spit on his grave and piss on his tomb’s flowers. Really. He is a VERY big jerk.
Did you do anything special to prepare for this role?
Actually no. I let him get inside of me, as I usually do with all the character I play, and take control of my body. Jeff is a strong one, but at the same time he is just a weak looser and it was not hard to get rid of him after the movie.
What was it like shooting in Spain?
Cool. Spain has some beautiful landscapes and nice people. I really enjoyed my trip to Spain, warm, sunny, good wine…
Were there any particular challenges for you in this film – if so, what?
I had one but I don’t want to spoiler to you anything hahaha.
What should horror fans they expect?
Brutality and violence, but also hope and sweetness. It’s a weird mix I know, but when you see the movie, you’ll understand it.
What was it like working with Davide Melini on the film?
He is such a nice guy! So kind and quiet. One that give you immediately the feeling that everything will be all right. Just listen to him.
What projects you have coming up next?
I have a lot of jobs! The movie “Nuraghes”, the TV series “The Reaping”, two feature films before the end of this year and a big Hollywood movie as stuntman filmed in London. Then I will shoot two shorts with my company, named “Dark Blue” and “The Purple Dragoons”.
