1- About The Author
DONALD ALLEN KIRCH is an avid reader of history, Sherlock Holmes Mysteries, the paranormal, and is a “hardcore” Doctor Who fan. After spending two weekends in the famous “Sallie House,” a “haunted house” in Atchison, Kansas, he is one of the only authors of his craft who can claim to have been attacked by a ghost! http://www.donaldallenkirch.com/
2 – What’s the story about?
“DROP DEAD GORGEOUS” is the darkest nightmare any man could experience. The main character, “Steve” gets caught cheating on his wife, “Annabelle.” The wife is a genius and goes crazy upon discovering his affair. Instead of getting a lawyer and taking the man for everything he’s got, she decides to get even. Slowly, day by bloody day, she turns this man into the most beautiful woman her science can create. Hell has NO FURY like a woman scorned. There are other terrors in this story, but best left to private reading. A word of WARNING: This book is NOT for the timid!
3 – Where did the idea for the story come from?
From thin air. One day, while watching TV, I asked the question, “What would a woman, who is a scientist at a top secret government lab, do if her husband cheated on her?”
4 – What is it about the story that made you want to write the book?
I love “Fish out of Water” stories. Nothing could be more awkward…or SCARY…than a man who wakes up one morning as a woman, or, vice-versa.
5 – How long did the book take to write?
Two years. I had female friends read it and “inform” me of data I had collected on the fairer sex, and wanted to see if I had been accurate in my descriptive. I must have been. One long-time friend disowned me after she read “DROP DEAD GORGEOUS,” telling me that I was a sick and twisted man. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!
6 – What makes it a horror story?
The permanent nightmare that “Steve” has to live with, because he was just too weak to remain faithful. Also, Annabelle, his wife, tortures the crap out of him. His transformation is graphic, shocking, and downright “I Spit on Your Grave-like.” There’s not a woman on this planet who hasn’t threatened to cut off their man’s “other brain” if she ever caught him cheating on her. This book takes that threat to the ultimate “Twilight Zone” depths of horror.
7 – What’s the scariest moment in the book?
Annabelle faces Steve at a precise time, as the man tries his best to convince her that she’s gone mad. He almost succeeds, but at the last minute, she reaches down, grabs his sex organs, and screams in rage as she… (Spoilers!)
8 – What is your favorite horror book?
“I am Legend.” The best motion picture version of this was “The Omega Man” starring Charleston Heston. The truest to the novel was “The Last Man on Earth” starring Vincent Price. The Will Smith version…just…is…
9 – Who is your favorite horror writer?
Richard Matheson, Robert E. Howard (Solomon Kane adventures), Rod Serling,
and Stephen King.
10 – Would the book work as a movie?
I think that it would. The two actors who would have to play the central part (Male & Female) would have to look so much the same, that the digital transformation would be startling. Horror would have to be redefined. If there are any moviemakers out there interested…I own all the film rights. Hint…hint! 😉
